WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?

Massage therapy is the assessment of the musculoskeletal system, and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction.

It involves treating injury and pain by manipulation; mobilization to develop and maintain; to rehabilitate or augment physical function, and pain relief, or promote health.

It is a clinically-oriented healthcare option to help alleviate musculoskeletal problems associated with everyday stress, and the physical manifestation of mental distress, muscular overuse, and many other persistent pain syndromes.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF MASSAGE THERAPISTS?

Massage therapists are primary healthcare professionals who consult and collaborate with their patients, and other healthcare professionals to provide patient-focused care. It is an important part of a healthcare regime.

YOUR FIRST VISIT

Your first visit to a massage therapist includes a comprehensive patient intake process, comprising of a confidential health history and informed consent.

It includes setting realistic goals for treatment, discussing possible responses to treatment, and being informed of alternative care options.

Once the therapist has made an assessment they will develop a treatment plan with the patient to ensure appropriate treatment is provided.

TYPES OF MASSAGE

There are many types of massage, and the ones I offer are:

Swedish Massage: This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize.

Deep Massage: This technique uses slower, more forceful stroke to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries.

Sports Massage: This is similar to Swedish Massage, but its geared towards people involved in sport activities to help prevent or treat injuries.

Trigger Point Massage: The process focuses on areas of tight muscle fibers that can form after injuries or overuse.

Cranial Sacral Therapy: A subtle technique that works to unwind tissues that have become restricted due to trauma, injury or overuse.

Matrix Repatterning: A gentle releasing technique that works with the structural anatomy to release holding patterns from strains, sprains, or breaks to the boney tissues.

BENEFITS

Massage Therapy is increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations and is covered under extended health care plans.
